Polo Ravales is officially done with portraying surreal, costume-clad characters on TV and film, and is set to reinvent his acting career in a sexy summer flick. He spills what’s been keeping him busy in this iGMA.tv one-on-one. Text by Jillian Q. Gatcheco. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Polo will be part of GMA’s First Quarter Explosion as Josh in Lupin, a Pinoy version of a French Classic, Arsine Lupin. This Mike Tuviera gem will be airing after Bakekang’s stint in the primetime block. 
We asked Polo about what makes Josh different from his previous roles, such as Hitano (Encantadia, 2005), Ebreo (Majika, 2006), and Euen (Super Noypi, 2006).
“Well, definitely, hindi na siya naka-costume, mas real na,” Polo replies. “Saka wala na siyang mga magic, wala nang mga special effects; mas real na ‘yung mundo ng Lupin.”
That’s a welcome change for this actor, especially since his last three portrayals were in telefantasyas. In Lupin, Polo’s character, Josh, is in love with Avril, played by Rhian Ramos.
“(Galing ako sa) mayaman na family, tapos nanliligaw ako kay Rhian, pero ang una niyang sasagutin, si Richard Gutierrez (Lupin). So doon kami talaga mag-aaway ni Richard. Doon magkakaroon ng conflict,” Polo narrates.
So is Josh going to be the kontrabida of the series? Polo defends his character and explains, “Hindi naman kontrabida, kasi ang kontrabida, masama talaga, di ba? Ako naman dito, may dahilan kung bakit kami mag-aaway (ni Lupin). Hindi dahil sa masama ako. Natural reaction ni Josh na magalit siya kay Lupin dahil nagseselos siya.”
This genre switch is just the beginning of Polo’s string of activities this year, because he’s also doing a sizzling sexy drama on the big screen – a first in his career! The Joel Lamangan summer flick is tentatively titled Silip, where Polo will be starring with two other GMA stars – Francine Prieto and Diana Zubiri.
Other things Polo fans can watch out for are a Bioessence billboard (in May) and a Folded & Hung (F&H) fashion show (on March 24).
The F&H fashion show is part of a model search competition to be held at the World Trade Center. As an endorser of the brand, Polo will grace the event along with his new fellow models.
