Rox Montealegre ends her 'StarStruck' journey

Natanggal na si Rox Montealegre sa 'StarStruck V,' and ipinakita ni Rox sa press right after, na her 'StarStruck' journey will not end sa kanyang elimination. Text and Photos by Jason John Lim; Interviews by Tweetbiz and Unang Hirit.

Nang makausap ng press si Rox Montealegre after the January 24 elimination night ng StarStruck V, composed pa ang dalaga. Asked why this is so, Rox explains na "hindi ko po iniisip na may eliminations; ang ginagawa ko po, lagi kong bina-block sa isip ko na may eliminations."

Rox continues na as a performer, she tells herself not to cry on stage. "Lagi akong may wall sa sarili ko," she tells us. "[Kasi] once mag-breakdown 'yung wall na ‘yun, magbe-breakdown talaga ako e."

The latest addition to line-up of StarStruck V Avengers did eventually cry during the interview, pero not before clarifying why she didn't want to cry on stage after being sent home:

"Alam ko po na it's just a game: some will win, some will lose." Rox says it's already a blessing, a bonus, na nakarating siya sa Top 8. And when her name was called to be part of the bottom group, and eventually, to be eliminated, she says, "iniisip ko 'yung mga friends ko, 'yung mga supporters ko, 'yung family ko po na nanunood sa bahay. Kapag umiyak ako, sila 'yung mahu-hurt for me."

Rox adds, "I always try to be strong for them."

No bad feelings

Nilinaw rin ni Rox na she doesn't harbor any ill will sa mga naiwang contenders. Sa kanyang pagkakatanggal, ito lang ang nasabi ng dalaga sa amin: "Someone's more deserving siguro. I trust them, the audience. I won't say na biased, I won't say na may nandaya. Because I believe, I trust the capacity of the mentors—I always stay positive naman e."

Inamin rin ni Rox na she wasn't as prepared as she thought sa competition. "[Sina] Diva Montelaba and Sarah Lahbati, performers talaga sila. And siguro, mas experienced sila." She did say na wala man siyang masyadong alam noong pumasok siya, marami naman siyang natutunan sa kanyang paglabas.

"Kailangan talaga na magkaroon ng confidence sa sarili—always believe in yourself." Rox tells us. "Nalaman ko na rin na lagi kang magri-risk sa buhay mo; laging sugal e."

Sabi nga niya, "I never thought, in my whole life, na papasukin ko ang showbiz."

Kaya naman sa mga naiwan niyang mga kaibigan sa competition, Rox has this to say: "I just wish, galingan nila kasi may plan din si God kung bakit sila nandyan." Dagdag pa niya, "pasensya na lang din kung may mga na-offend ako sa show."

At sa mga nag-vote off naman sa kanya during their last bull session, Rox has this to say: "Wala po akong sama ng loob sa kahit sino. And that's why hindi rin po ako naiyak, kasi wala po akong sama ng loob."

Wild Card would be unfair

When Princess Snell was eliminated, she brought up the Wild Card twist na ginawa sa mga naunang StarStruck seasons as a way for her, and the other avengers, to get back in the competition. Pero si Rox, she would rather na walang Wild Card round na mangyari.

"I would say na it's unfair—unfair for them." Rox explains to us na silang mga nakalabas na would have time to rest, to recuperate, and to set their minds and bodies sa mga susunod pang tests na haharapin—whereas the ones who are still in the competition wouldn't be able to do the same. "'yung mga nasa loob na tao, na-exert na nila 'yung effort nila. 'Yung mga days na nagpapahinga 'yung mga Avengers, sila todo trabaho."

Though, Rox also tells us na that doesn't mean she wouldn't grab the Wild Card opportunity should it be presented. "Honestly, I would. Siyempre, opportunity rin siya."

And kung wala nang Wild Card twist na mangyayari, Rox is ready for her fearless prediction na magiging ultimate winners: "Ian [Batherson], of course, he's my friend. Sa girls, si Sarah."

As for Rox naman, ngayong wala na siya sa StarStruck V, she honestly admits na hindi pa niya alam kung ano ang gagawin niya. "So if meron pong opportunity pong dumating, I would just grab it."

She is adamant though na she will stay in show business. "Kasi dito rin, nalaman ko na love ko talaga 'yung ginagawa ko. I want more. I already found my place, I already found my self in the show, and my StarStruck journey will be completed with the people around me. I want to entertain more people."
