'Sana Ngayong Pasko' finds Maxene Magalona at a very late stage of pregnancy—don't fret though, dahil staged lang ang pregnancy niya. Pero ano nga ba ang nararamdaman ni Maxene sa challenge na ibinigay sa kanya ng first ChristmaSerye ng GMA?Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Para sa character na ginagampanan ni Maxene Magalona, the pregnancy is all too real—at lalo na ang mga reaction ng mga taong malaki ang expectations sa kaniya—gaya ng kapatid niyang ginagampanan ni JC de Vera, at ang ama niyang si Christopher de Leon.
"'Yung character ko dito is a bit different from [my previous roles]," kuwento sa amin ni Maxene, saying her character is may pagka-taray at may pagka-brat din. "And I don't usually play that role! And then of course, for the whole duration of the show, I'm pregnant."
Maxene says she's really happy with the role she's been given dahil she'll be portraying something na nangyayari talaga sa totoong buhay. "'yung pagiging pregnant nila at an early age, that stems also from mga problems within the family," Maxene observes. "Alam mo 'yun, parang when girls get pregnant, 'di sila masyadong close sa parents nila, sa family—so they look for affection from another source." That's usually when they get pregnant, she says.
"It's all parang connected talaga doon sa problem na hindi close 'yung family." Maxene explains, "and that's what you need to fix—you need to bond, to bring that closeness back—especially during Christmas."
At iyan ang kuwento ng Sana Ngayong Pasko.
"Rich 'yung story," Maxene tells us about the show. "And it's very, very dramatic." The young actress shares with us na the show focuses on the family during the Holiday Season, "and it's so good kasi a lot of people have already forgotten what Christmas is all about. And that's the point of the show talaga, to remind the people that Christmas is not about gifts, material things or festivities—it's about celebrating the togetherness of the family."
Maxene admits, ito ang reason kung bakit mahalaga sa kanya ang Sana Ngayong Pasko. "This is my first Christmas without my dad," she reminds us. "And lalo kong nare-realize how important [family] is." She continues na lalo na sa pamilya nila where they hold Christmas in high regard, dahil ito ang paboritong holiday ng kanyang namayapang ama na si Francis M.
"So now siyempre it's very emotional for me, kasi nga wala si Papa during Christmas." She adds, "and I'm glad na part ako ng show na 'to, kasi nga parang ano sa akin yun e. Sensitive na issue na gusto ko sanang ipakita din sa mga tao. I want to be a part of that, 'yung ipapakita sa kanila 'yung message [of togetherness], kasi nga kahit for me, ngayon ko lang nare-realize na sobrang important niya. And ngayon ko siya nami-miss all the more."
One thing that excites Maxene about the show though is the fact that she's reuniting with JC Tiuseco, her Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat sa Akin co-star and love team partner.
"Yes, si JC—siya 'yung makakabuntis sa akin!" Maxene tells us na "hindi na siya torpe ngayon, but he's also still a probinsyano. But then, may twist din 'yung role niya. Ask him na lang."
Natutuwa nga si Maxene na nabigyan sila ulit ng chance to work together, "and siyempre kaya rin kami binigyan ulit [ng project], because mainit 'yung pagtanggap sa amin ng mga tao with KAMALSA. And talagang tuwang-tuwa kami, kasi nga nagustuhan nila 'yung tandem namin." Kuwento niya, "ngayong lang ako naka-experience na lahat ng tao sinasabing bagay na bagay kami. As in, lahat talaga!"
"So parang kami, if that's what they want, why not give it to them?" Kaya naman here they are—back together again. At ang maiiwan lang ni Maxene na promise sa fans ng kanilang love team, "kung nagustuhan nila kami in the afternoon, magustuhan rin nila kami sa primetime."
Sana Ngayong Pasko begins airing on an earlier timeslot starting Monday next week—after Full House, sa GMA Telebabad.
