Weekday mornings are forever lively with sisters and hosts Janice and Gelli de Belen and Carmina Villaroel.
With almost seven years of togetherness, these ladies have always managed to be fun and energetic as they lead their award-winning talk show, Sis. Text by Jessa Ericka C. Bien. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio and Xylen Alamo-Punelas.
But more than touching other people’s lives and providing entertainment to their viewers five days a week, these sisters have personal reasons why they love what they are doing.
“We’re together!” Janice says with a laugh, adding, “Baduy!” She rebounds quickly, though, by explaining why. “Masaya kami pag nandito kami.”
Aside from spending lots of quality time with each other, though, the ladies consider the perks of their job as factors that make them like every minute of it more.
“Saka makikita mo yung iba’t ibang klase ng artista, mga personality nila, mga ugali,” Carmina says.
True enough, the sisters get to meet more stars than any celebrity. They also get to talk with the most interesting and intriguing personalities in the country—people whom laymen would not ordinarily meet.
“I think the personal reward is we meet a lot of people…na hindi usually makikita. Si [Manny] Pacquiao nga nakasama naming nang wala lang,” Gelli proudly says.
“Hindi kami nakipagsiksikan, siya mismo 'yung pumunta sa ’min,” Carmina adds.
Sis, it can be remembered, was the champion boxer’s first stop in the Kapuso network when he arrived in the country after his fight with Antonio Barrera in America.

The perks of being a Sis host, however, does not end with getting to know a lot of stars and rubbing elbows with important personalities, as the show also serves as an avenue for meeting long-lost friends.
“'Yung mga long-lost friends na hindi mo masyadong nakikita, dito mo makikita tapos ma-u-update ka [sa kanila],” Carmina notes.
“Tapos ang daming cute guys!” Gelli gushes.
The show also gives them the chance to be with their favorite personalities, like Senators Panfilo Lacson and Francis Escudero, and the heartthrob Dennis Trillo, which all three of them just like to love.
“Well, pag nakita mo si Dennis at makatabi mo siya yayakapin mo rin siya kasi he’s always so mabango,” Janice shares to a fan during her live chat experience with iGMA.
Gelli agrees with a giggle, “Yeah! He’s so pleasant. He’s so unassuming!”
Professionals
The SIS-ters may encounter their favorite people most of the time, but this does not mean that they do not have to deal with those they would rather not.
“Wala kaming choice, kailangan naming humarap kahit ayaw namin,” Carmina says. The sisters admit it has not happened only once, but they nevertheless delivered what was asked of them.
“Work is work. [We deal with them] professionally,” Gelli states.
