Overview

Gumapang Ka sa Lusak revolves around the lives of engaged sweethearts Rachel (Jennylyn Mercado), an aspiring young actress, and Levi (Dennis Trillo), a poor, happy-go-lucky guy.

In the town of San Felipe, Rachel's beauty stands out. She becomes the object of desire for many men, including their own mayor, Edmundo Guatlo (Al Tantay). With a fervent desire to have her, Mayor Guatlo will use all his power to make Rachel his mistress. Rachel rejects all the gifts and favors offered by the mayor. However, she will fall into the wicked mayor's trap after a series of misfortunes happen to her loved ones, including her fiancé Levi, who gets imprisoned due to an illegal activity.

Although the mayor's wife, Rowena (Sandy Andolong), is aware of her husband's infidelity, she goes along with it as long as the affair doesn't affect her comfortable and powerful position in the society.

However, things will make a sudden turn when Mayor Guatlo's secret is exposed to the public. It is a secret that will uncover a series of other secrets.

Will the mayor be able to win when he runs anew for the mayoralty post in the coming election? Will the expose free Rachel from being the Mayor's mistress? Will fate lead her back to the loving arms of Levi? Or is it too late for the hapless lovers to rekindle their affection?

A call to GMA: please release this show on dvd. It's definitely a classic, hence a collectible. When I was there in the Philippines, I bought a bunch of collectibles: Marimar, Dysebel, Adik Sayo complete sets and a lot of movies. I was actually looking for Magdusa Ka series. I was impressed when I was able to watch excerpts of that show in youtube and other sites. I also heard or read somewhere that the show either got nominated or won international awards. That was an honor to the Philippine television industry, let alone to GMA, the cast and other people behind it. I was deeply frustrated that the show was not release on dvd when that show, for me was a classic. Gumapang Ka sa Lusak definitely falls in that category. Classics are definitely worth collecting. Please GMA, release this classic on dvd. I'd be the first to buy..

I agree with Maica... looking at their picture above, they really look good together... Just a thought, since remake seems to be the fad these days, how about doing a remake of "Prinsesa Naranja", you know the FPJ, Elizabeth Ramsey movie, I'm not sure what year exactly but i know is has the perfect recipe, romance, comedy and fantasy, and a little action... i think... Dennis and Jennylyn would be perfect for the role, and I think Rufa Mae for the character of Ms. Ramsey would be hilarious, if only she is dark skinned... although I can't imagine her singing the "sa isang libo mong halik ako at puputi" song, but knowing GMA, I'm sure if ever, they'll be able to find a way to make it work... just a suggestion... anyway, more power to you both!

I am really enjoying this show. It is very timely especially now that the elections is coming. It reveals a lot about the dirt in politics and this will help viewers to open their eyes and choose the right candidate to be elected. On the other side, I am also so fond with Jennylyn and Dennis. Aside from the fact that they really look good together in screen, their acting is really excellent and they are giving justice to their roles. I can say that they are versatile actor and actress.
